TXT novels & eBooks 101
Why are most web novels TXT files?
Open any novel download site and you will find that most web novels come as TXT files — plain text, tiny size and universal compatibility keep it going strong. Meanwhile EPub has become the standard for published eBooks. Tide Reader reads both perfectly.
What makes TXT novels special?
TXT is plain text — readable on virtually any device or app, free of DRM, and easy to import into any reader. For novels, it is lightweight, simple and does the job.
TXT has its quirks too: many legacy files mix encodings (GBK / UTF-8) and rough line breaks. A good reader must auto-detect encoding, tidy paragraphs and split chapters smartly.
What else can I read besides TXT?
Tide Reader excels at TXT web novels while fully supporting EPub and more. EPub is an open XML-based standard — reflowable and screen-adaptive — and the de facto format for published eBooks.
Whether the file is TXT or EPub, Tide Reader adapts the layout automatically for a consistent reading experience.
